A more sustainable future for generations to come

As one of Europe’s leading agricultural and energy companies, the DLG Group wants to contribute to creating a better and more sustainable future for generations to come. This requires action.

With our sustainability plan, ZERO, we set long term goals and ambitions, but we also aim to continue to create real solutions that our customers can benefit from in the short term.

The latter is particularly important to us. DLG was founded by farmers, and with our central position as one of the first links in the value chain, we know that we play an important role in enabling a better future for agriculture. At DLG, we want to be part of the solution and create value for our owners and customers – also when it comes to sustainability. Therefore, our focus will continue to be on developing tools, products and concepts that enable our customers to make choices when doing business with us. In this way, we can help them – as part of the most important business in the world, agriculture – to keep on producing world-class food and creating value for the outside world. At the same time, we have defined a number of concrete goals to increase the sustainability of the Group's own activities. This involves reducing the environmental and climate impact of our production and logistics, and the ambition is for the DLG Group’s activities to be climate-neutral by 2050.

We will do this while maintaining the competitiveness of our company. We believe that sustainable development and sustainable business can go hand in hand, and we see sustainability as a commercial opportunity, which will at the same time enable us to help make a lasting, positive imprint on the world we leave to the next generations. That, we believe, is just how it should be.

We do not have all the answers yet, and we still have a long way to go, but we will continue to take steps in the right direction every day

Goal 2025

Goal 2025 soy - activeAs an importer of soy for use in feed, we are very aware of our responsibilities. Therefore, we want to ensure that by 2025 at the latest all soy imported by the DLG Group will be responsibly produced and verified deforestation-free.

Goal 2025

goal 2025 - activeWe want to reduce the climate footprint of our production and logistics operations (scope 1 and 2*) in both the short and long term. Therefore, our ambition is that in 2025 we have reduced our carbon emissions by 30% compared to 2019. To achieve this goal, we will, among other things, look at how we can increase the use of renewable energy sources.**

* Includes scope 1 and 2 emissions, which are direct emissions from the Group's own production and logistics operations as well as indirect emissions caused by purchased energy.
**We are working to have our climate goals validated by the Science Based Target initiative as being in line with the Paris Agreement.

Goal 2030

Goal 2030 - activeIt is our ambition that in 2030 we have reduced emissions from the Group's own activities (scope 1 and 2 *) by 50%. This is in line with the UN Climate Panel IPCC's recommendation to limit global warming to 1.5°C relative to pre-
industrial levels.**

Goal 2050

Zero 2050We are working towards our operations being climate-neutral by 2050. This is an ambitious goal, but – like our other climate goals – it will contribute to limiting global warming to a maximum of 1.5°C compared to pre-industrial
levels.**

Our work on sustainability

The world’s population is growing, and in the future there will be many more mouths to feed. The UN estimates that by 2050 the world’s population will have reached 9.5 billion people, which means that more food will have to be produced. This must be done in a sustainable way and with due care for the climate, the environment, people and the Earth’s natural resources. Given our role in the first stages of food production, we have a responsibility to help make this happen.

DLG's sustainability plan

With our sustainability plan we have now created an overall framework for our work on sustainability, which going forward will be an integral part of our strategic work and our business.

The title of our sustainability plan is ZERO, because it sums up the thinking behind a large number of the goals we will work to achieve. We want to minimise our impact on the climate and the environment, so that by 2050 our operations are climate-neutral. We want to help combat deforestation in South America by purchasing only verified deforestation-free soy. We want to create a workplace that is free of accidents and where discrimination does not exist.

And last, but not least, we want to help create a better and more sustainable future for generations to come – also in agriculture – who will have to produce more from less. Therefore, we want to develop and offer concrete solutions that can help to bring about lasting, positive change. In this way, we will help our customers and owners in agriculture to meet their own sustainability goals both now and in the future.

Zero Pie-chartHow?
The plan is based on thorough preparations and the collection and verification of data from the entire DLG Group, and on which our goals are based. Our climate goals are aligned with the objectives of the Paris Agreement as well as the UN Climate Panel IPCC’s recommendation to limit global warming to 1.5°C relative to pre-industrial levels.

We want to work with sustainability in a broad perspective, and we want to collaborate broadly across the value chain with our owners, our customers, our suppliers and our business partners.

This, we believe, is essential to meeting the goals set out in our plan which covers the entire value chain from supplier to customer.
To ensure that we deliver on our goals, we will ensure regular follow-up and report on progress in our CSR report, which is published annually in January.

Our work on the UN’s global goals

In the DLG Group, we support the UN’s Global Goals for Sustainable Development (SDGs) and we want to contribute actively to their realisation.
We have therefore selected six SDGs to which we believe that we, as an agricultural and energy company, contribute.
Across the group, we are committed to delivering on these SDGs, and with every year that passes they are becoming increasingly integrated in our business. That is why, in working on with sustainability we are focused on how we can further contribute to the SDGs in the period up until 2030.

The six SDGs we have chosen to focus on are:

Zero Hunger         Gender Equaliy         Decent work and economic growth         Responsible consumption and production         Climate action         Partnerships for the goals

Climate and environment

We want to reduce the imprint of our activities on the world around us, and an efficient use of the Earth’s resources is key to achieving that goal. We are therefore committed to reducing emissions from our own production and logistics operations through, among other things, increasing the use of renewable energy sources while reducing waste and our environmental impact.

Our ambition is that by 2030 we will have reduced emissions from our own production and logistics by 50%, which is in line with the UN Climate Panel IPCC’s recommendation to limit global warming to 1.5°C relative to pre-industrial levels. At the same time, we are working towards climate neutrality in 2050.

We are working to have our climate goals validated by the Science Based Target initiative (SBTi), which verifies that the goals are consistent with the Paris Agreement.

Responsible consumption and production Climate action

People and responsibility

A diverse and inclusive workplace is essential for us in order to attract the brightest employees. We are therefore keen to increase the diversity of our organisation in a broad sense and create equal opportunities for all, because we believe that this creates the best conditions for our business.

Responsible conduct is important in all parts of our business, especially when it comes to the way we manage our business. Good corporate governance is a priority for us, and we are continuously working to optimise our business processes and procedures.

Gender Equaliy Decent work and economic growth

Agriculture of the future

The DLG Group is deeply rooted in agriculture, and it is therefore crucial for us that our plan supports the farmers – who are our customers and owners – on their journey towards making their production even more sustainable. We want to create sustainable solutions that customers in all parts of our business can benefit from in both the short and long term, and we will enable them to make the most sustainable choice when doing business with us.
We see plant breeding as an important tool when it comes to developing tomorrow’s sustainable agriculture. This is why we are working to develop the crops of the future, which will make it possible for agriculture to produce more with less, and which can withstand the changes in weather and climate that are predicted in the coming years.
We will seek strategic partnerships with other players in our industry to ensure the highest possible value creation for our owners and customers.

Zero Hunger Responsible consumption and production Partnerships for the goals

Responsible procurement

Action is required in all parts of the value chain if we are to fulfil our ambition of creating a sustainable
future. The high standards we demand of ourselves we therefore also demand of our suppliers.
We want to work with suppliers who are committed to conducting themselves responsibly and who help us fulfil our ambitions for a strong, reliable and sustainable supply chain.
In our procurement, we want to focus strongly on responsible procurement, and we want to ensure that the goods we buy are produced in a responsible way, where natural resources are preserved, human rights are protected and applicable law is respected.
