The green transformation must be given impetus with genuine solutions. This is the message from one of Europe's leading agricultural companies, DLG Group, which today presents a plan for how the group will reduce its own climate footprint in the future and at the same time support its owners and customers on their journey towards even more sustainable agricultural and food production.
The plan covers all business areas in the group. On climate, the main goal is to reduce emissions from the Group's own activities by 50 percent in 2030* and at the same time work towards climate neutrality in 2050. However, DLG will allocate a great deal of focus on creating and offering products and solutions with a sustainable profile to its customers.
“If we are to achieve the goal of the green transition in agriculture and becoming climate neutral in 2050, then it requires action. When I talk to my colleagues and partners in the industry, they demand concrete solutions that can help make a difference on the individual farm. That is why we have made a sustainability plan, where in addition to the group's climate goals, we focus sharply on how we can offer products and tools that make it easy for our customers to make the climate or environmentally conscious choice, ”says Niels Dengsø Jensen, Chairman of the Board of DLG , and continues:
“DLG is founded and owned by farmers, and therefore it is essential for us that with our sustainability plan we support them on their journey towards making their production even more sustainable. In the coming years, I believe that we as farmers will increasingly experience that we are met with new demands and expectations of how we can contribute to delivering on the climate agenda. There, I see it as DLG's task to help make it possible to meet the demands and expectations we are met with."
The road to ZERO
Working with sustainability is not new for the DLG Group. For several years, the group has strived to make its own activities more sustainable and resource efficient, while at the same time creating tools and products with a sustainable profile. Climate declaration of feed, research in plant breeding, offering alternative fuels and optimization of livestock feed are among the examples.
The sustainability plan, named ZERO, is based on DLG's goal of climate neutrality in 2050. In addition to providing solutions to customers and owners, DLG Group will work purposefully to reduce emissions from its own activities and ensure that soy imported into use in animal feed, is responsibly and deforestation-free produced.
These are the four goals that have been set for the group:
“We have many exciting projects underway across the group. In the spring, we will produce green proteins from grass and lucerne, we will continue our research within plant breeding so that we can get more out of less, and we will continue to look into alternative fuels from renewable energy sources. It is important for us at DLG, that we help to create the framework for future generations, also in agriculture. We do not have all the answers yet, but with the sustainability plan we set a clear direction that will benefit our owners, customers and the world around us in both the short and long term.”
